American haul at masters worlds
Americans captured four medals and one world title last weekend at the 2008 UCI masters road world championships in St. Johaan, Austria.
Kenny Fuller of Corona del Mar, California won the world title in the men’s 60-64 time trial to lead the U.S. medal performances. Fuller clocked a winning time of 26:6.62 seconds over the 20-kilometer course to finish 2.46 seconds up on silver medalist Kare Christoffersen of Norway.
A pair of Americans — Richard Feldman (Ketchum, Idaho) and Cynthia Swain (Elma, New York) also came away with silver medals. Feldman was second in the men’s 35-39 time trial, finishing 25 seconds off the pace of winner Michel Chocol (ITA) in the 20-kilometer race. Swain finished 20 seconds back from gold medalist Lorraine Schultz (AUS) in the women’s 55-59 age group to claim her silver medal.
As the only U.S. medalist in the road races, Michael Carter (Littleton, Colorado.) won a bronze medal in the men’s 45-49 contest. Carter came to the line as part of a three-man lead group in the 116-kilometer race.
